Another Sketch Submission

This card didn't turn our perfect but I've decided to just let it lie. As Jennifer McGuire said on a recent post, no one else is going
to notice that it's not perfect.

I used two circle dies from Lifestyle Crafts to cut one circle outline and one of the larger dies to make the kraft circle piece.

The "happy" die is a Simon Says Stamp exclusive and I'm loving it! I cut it twice, once from some watercolored paper done with disress inks and once from a brown paint chip. Then I layered them together slightly offset for more dimension and contrast. They hang off the edge of the kraft piece which I put on foam tape.

I used the negative image from the "happy" die on another card I'll post later.

I also used some white Wendy Vecchi embossing paste and a stencil from Crafters Companion that I've had for years from my scrapbooking days and never used. I put it at an angle, continuing the design of the curves going off the kraft piece.

The "for you" is from the "happy" stamp set that is also an exclusive from Simon Says Stamp and coordinates with the die. The die and stamp set were created by my crafting guru Kristina Werner. Love her style!

I used another sketch (#1) from Hero Arts' monthly challenge as my starting point. I adapted it to use the circle pieces instead of the vertical lines and the two pieces of the sentiment as the sentiment and surrounding accents that were in the sketch. Here's the link for comparison and if you want to take the challenge yourself : Hero Arts Monthly Sketch Challenge

Here's the finished card. Still clean lines. I was thinking baby when I made it but it really would work for any congratulations event for a couple.

Back from beyond...

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I did a post here. This year has been busy and with a full list of complications. In addition, Flicker is now not allowing me to log in with a Google account. So this blog should see some more of me. :-)

So I'll post this beauty. It was made with a Hero Arts sketch #3 from their monthly challenge. I'm also going to post it to the challenge at CAS-ual Fridays challenge: Three Thirds. I used three layers of flowers and three pearls for the flower center.

I used the Hero Arts Flower Bursts stamp and the Hero Arts Say It All stamp. A strip of tan cardstock separates the stamped strip from the rest of the card and give a natural edge to the stamped border. I used Tim Holtz Broken China distress ink for the flower stamp and Tsukineko VersaMagic ink in Sahara Sand. The flowers were salvaged from a silk flower when I was working at the flower shop and I added three pearls to the center.

I actually had a hard time with it, even with a sketch and a stamp in mind. Sometimes simple is more complicated.

But I love how it turned out.

First Up: Pretty Cards!

A picture-heavy post here but pretties! They're not the best photo quality since they were photographed at night...

These were created for the challenges at Moxie Fab World's Blog.

This card is one I'm pretty proud of. It's my first attempt at a shaker card. I've learned that I will need to get rid of the static cling before sealing it... Live and learn, right? I love the two gold colors. I also love this tree stamp. It's LOVELY in gold! The circles and leaves were punched out of gold leaves that were a gift from a coworker and have been sitting in a box for years. It's perfect for the All That Glitters Is Gold Challenge.

These next two were also for the All That Glitters Is Gold Challenge. I cut the leaves on the second one to make them more like feathers. I love the rich autumn colors and the pair of gold and kraft.

This card is very simple but colorful. I used acrylics to make a rainbow background for the vellum sentiment (which is appropriate, right?). It's on handmade paper that was a gift from a friend. The paint is the adhesive for the vellum. Much better way to adhere it. I made it for the Color Media Challenge and the General Craft Supplies Challenge.

That's all for now. I've got a couple more cards I'll post later but some eye candy for now. I like the idea of having one place for me to keep record of the cards I make.

Hopefully these will bring joy to the people who see them as well. :)

Hello, World!

Well, I decided to start a blog. More for me than anyone else... I wanted a place to be able to put multiple photos for my card making or other crafts together in one place. Flickr doesn't really let me work with that, so... new blog!! I'm not really expecting anyone to see this but me and maybe my family.

My posts are probably going to be intermittent, but we'll see.

A little about me:
I'm happily married.
I've been crafting all my life.
I love photography, card making, scrapbooking, and more recently, crocheting.
I love nature.
I love travel.

Finally, I say a "Hello" to the world!
